I have had ET since 2007. I don't know of any supplements that lower platelets.

I have ET and have been taking 2000 mg of B12 for a couple of years to increase energy, with approval of hematologist. We are all different. My CBC tests never showed that B12 increased my platelets. I also take Turmeric as a supplement because my doctors have OK'd it, it is supposed to reduce inflammation, and it may help reduce platelets. I think I read an article about it on this website last year. I don't take any supplements that haven't been OK'd by my doctors after my experience with deciding on my own to take Magnesium. I later learned from a gastroenterologist that Magnesium has laxative properties that were worsening the digestive problems I experienced when my Hydroxyurea medication was increased.

Hi Brian, have you taken the herbs listed in your post and had a before and after CBC while not on any other cytoreduction treatment? If so, what were your before and after numbers? And your subsequent platelet counts as well. I’m very curious about supplements but don’t know of any that actually reduce the platelet count. Throwing this out there…..a reduction of 20 or 100 or 10,0000 is not a reduction. That’s just a typical range. A downward trend consists of three labs with a significant reduction.

My specialist is Dr Ruben Mesa. My platelets can vary as much as 100,000 and he still states I am stable. An increase or two is always followed by a decrease.

Im only on aspirin and hope to stay that way as long as possible. I take a range of supplements that I’ve researched may help with ET - resveratrol, curcumin, aged garlic, magnesium, COQ10, astaxanthin. I see a good traditional Chinese medicine practitioner every few months and he puts me a herbal regime that seems to really help. I read that same article re dan Shen a few years ago and tried it for a while with no success - my Chinese doc thinks it wouldn’t have been helpful in my particular case.
I also make exercise a daily priority and eat very low carb (mostly).
Something must be working as I’m totally symptom free and live my life as I’ve always done 🤷🏻‍♀️

high Janet,
The first blood test I had after taking Red sage and Coleus Forskohii My platelets were reuced by 30. I was happy because they disn't go up. My last test was in December (after 4 months) and my platelets went from 580 to 670. Not working. I do not take peonia because it reduces testosterone which I need . It would be fine for you.
Despite my dissapointing results I fell great and my cardio health seems to be good. Blood pressure 120/70. Heart rate 60. Not bad for 71 years old. I take Beats, Tumeric, Ginger, Ginco Biloba or whatever I have on hand to keep the blood moving. I feel great. I can do real hard phisical work and can keep up with my kids on most projects. I still do not take Hydroxy although highley recowish you wellmmended by my hematologist.
I found out just the other day that my multi vitamin has b-12 that supposidly increases platelets. It so hard to get info beyond the one liners. At what point will b-12 increase platelets beyond normal. I dont know.
Wish you well on your quest!

Brian
