Yes I am 72, Jak2 and the only perscribed medicine is asperin. I have repeatedly refused to take the recommended Hydroxy... I take numerous suppliments to keep the blood flowing. Beats, Turmeric, Ginger and others depending on whats on sale. I started taking MNM/MNMH about two months ago. I also started taking about 5 oz of tonic water (contains quinine) about 3 months sgo. In the last 9 months my blood work has been taken in three mounth inervals with platelet reults going from 680 to 668 and two days ago 607. Clearly they are not going up, but I bet when I meet with my hematologist tomorrow she will again recommend Hydroxy.

I am 73 years old and have taken Hydroxyurea for 8 + years now without really any serious side effects. I only take a 500mg capsule 4 days a week. Doing ok but I am always very anemic. My HGB is good if I am at 10 or slightly above. I got to 11 once and felt like a new person. I have had weight gain and get headaches, but I prefer to take HU because when I first got sick, I had several mild strokes. I don't want any more strokes!
