Mine reached the 1.8 million mark once. I had been started on anagrelide after ten years on Hydrea. My body responded very quickly and an inexperienced, unknowlegdable nurse practitioner instructed me to reduce my dose. I never see the two nurse practitioners at my local hemo office anymore. My megakarocytes celebrated, increasing from around 600,000 to 1.8 m in two weeks.

I’ve had ET for 18 years. About half the time having quite frequent blood draws.

My platelets have crazy swings. I recently had a TIA when my platelets reached 2.3M. They generally hover between 500 - 1M, but had stopped taking aspirin per Dr. orders before an endoscopy. I now keep a very close watch on them and have blood tests weekly. Bob's information about leafy greens is new to me but I am thankful to know that!

That is quite high. I was briefly around 1.5 if I remember correctly. One thing I've been told and have noticed in diet is that leafy greens tend to thicken the blood. As much as I love a good salad, when I back off a bit, my platelets drop.

Thank you, Bob! I've been so curious how high platelets could go. I've scanned through much of this website's Q&A and replies to learn if others have experienced such high numbers. Yours is the highest I've seen. I do have a lot of leafy greens, both in my smoothie in the morning and a good salad in the evening. I'll definitely try cutting back and see what happens. I had a second bone marrow biopsy/aspiration on Thursday and the sample is being sent to a lab doing specialized testing. I've had a CT scan (all normal) and at least 30 vials of blood drawn to test everything they could think of (Von Willebrand, TB, celiac, C-reactive, adrenal gland functioning, etc. etc.). All normal. So far, there's nothing that explains my high platelets that keep going higher! It's a mystery!

Mary148, Might I suggest that you find a MPN specialist? MPN is a rare bird with several variants that are just now being researched. I have both a hem/oncologist and a specialist that work together. I see specialist every 4 months and hem/oncologist weekly for bloodwork and monthly for consult. I'm still learning about how my diet and how stress affects my platelet counts.
