It’s Known And Proven Animal Products Raise Platelets Count, But Is This Still True For The Medicated Patient?

A myMPNteam Member asked a question 💭
Tx

Seems it wouldn’t be true if one was on a patient
specific platelet lowering med(s).

I’ve never been told not to consume them (and I see a respected MPN professor) and although I don’t eat a lot of dairy, I do eat go out of my way to ensure my diet has plenty of protein via meat, fish, eggs and organic chicken. I do this because I make exercise a priority and I’m trying to maintain muscle mass. Plus I stick to basically a ketogenic diet - which seems to be working in terms of lowering my inflammatory levels (my CRP is always low) - which means I’m symptom free.
So it’s a bit of a balancing act, isn’t it? We really need protein - sarcopenia is a big issue as we age - and the best sources that are well utilised by your body are meat/seafood/eggs.

I’d be interested in viewing the data on this? Do you have documented research showing animal products raise platelets?

Meaning the doctor didn't think I'd live to 60 and now 70+ years old seems likely. Beyond that, who knows. Longevity is better on interferons. The worst outcomes are on phleb + aspirin. When my Jakafi runs out eventually, I'll just use Pegasys.

54. Got diagnosed at 43. The observation approach has the lowest longevity in the 20 year longevity study. interferons the highest. Since you have more time, taking an interferon alone is probably the best open, but take a very low dose. Some of it is expense and getting insurance to cover it. If the doctor thinks you have to wait to 60, you need a new doctor. I had to switch doctors from one who didn't believe in interferons and he also didn't think I'd see 60. After the combo 70 seems pretty realistic.

19.5 months. I will probably stop taking Jakafi when I run out. On the Pegasys side I'm down from weekly to monthly. People have better outcomes if they continue taking them, but at some point I may have to take a break to keep my counts up. Im already at 8% of the starting Pegasys dosage and I'll probably be dropping further next week.
