Hi, Julie. I was on hydroxyurea for 10 years. There was no hair loss.

I have been on hydrea all but one of 23 years, and not experienced hair loss.

I've noticed that, among many other good things, my hair has grown back thicker once I switched from HU to Anagrelide for Cal-R ET.

Hi Julie4,
I was on hydroxyurea from Feb 2011-Aug 2022. My doses varied but were often quite high. I did have issues with my hair while on HU, which (as I understand it) is an oral chemotherapy drug. My hair became thinner and frizzier. Since going off HU, my hair has slowly recovered.
There are always pros and cons to any treatment. I hope learning about my personal experience helps you navigate your own treatment decisions.

One of the things I've learned from this website is that there are many possible reactions to MPN meds. Plus there are different MPN's that people have here, and different amounts of time people have been under treatment. So each person's experience may be different but other people's experience provides useful info.
