Does Anyone Have Suggestions For Good Supplements To Take For ET?
I have Essential Thrombocythemia, Arthritis and Fibromyalgia.
In addition to my hematologist, I see a chiropractor/homeopath/holistic health care practitioner, and wish I had found him before my blood clots and ET diagnosis in 2001. He is in his late 80’s, still practicing and takes no prescription medication.
I take a women’s multivitamin, calcium with vitamin D, krill oil, Super B complex, and glucosamine chondroitin, all at his recommendation. I also take magnesium and potassium. And but for the MPN I am healthy and active at 75, no diabetes or other chronic conditions.
My hematologist and PCP know of my supplements and while they don’t recommend them they don’t contraindicate them, either.
Traditional medicine is not pro-supplement, in my experience, but I think the two can co-exist peacefully.
I have been on Hydroxyurea all but one year since 2001, when I took Anegrelide. My hematologist felt the hydrea was a better medication for me, and it’s still working well for me tho I transformed to PV last year.
Hair mineral analysis is up 500$ in Maryland, and insurance doesn’t cover it.
Hematology has only basic nutritional training. Get established with a Functional Medicine practitioner and have a Hair Mineral Analysis.
As long as you stay hydrated and eat a healthy diet as well as exercise, supplements should not matter. I would ask your hematologist regarding nutrition or based on your findings.
